SEARAC Inspired by Record Voter Turnout, Historic Victories

Washington, DC– Yesterday, Americans across the country were empowered to go to the polls-and in some cases, wait for hours-to cast their votes in what is looking to be a historic midterm election turnout. Early voting counts soared, with advance vote counts from four states (UT, NV, AZ, TX) surpassing their total numbers from the last midterm election. And a record number of women were elected to Congress, including the first Native American women, the first Muslim women, and the youngest woman ever to win a seat.

“We are so moved by the community’s power reflected in these historical voter turn-outs, and congratulate all our leaders on the ground who were responsible for these wins,” said Quyen Dinh, executive director of SEARAC. “Progress takes time, and we are more hopeful and energized than ever before for the powerful statement our country can make in 2020.”
