Today is the first day of SEARAC’s annual end-of-year fundraising campaign, and all week long you’ll be hearing from some of my SEARAC family about the ways that your gift supports our Southeast Asian American (SEAA) communities. With your generosity, we have an ambitious goal to reach $22,000, in honor of the year 2022 and the strides we have made toward building our collective power.
I had the joy of attending the #DefendDiversity rally in Washington, DC, this fall, where hundreds of advocates demonstrated at the Supreme Court and told their stories of accessing higher education. It was so powerful to see Southeast Asian American representation and visibility in our fight for civil rights and solidarity with students of color.
From translating our deportation PSAs into five Southeast Asian languages, to preparing for the introduction of the All Students Count Act and bringing visibility to the unique experiences of Southeast Asian American students, SEARAC is shining a spotlight on our Southeast Asian community.
Last month, I celebrated one year as a full-time staff member at SEARAC, and I feel deep gratitude to be moving into my new role here as the Communications Associate. Working at SEARAC is to feel fully seen and embraced in my identity as a Montagnard-Bunong woman. I feel seen in the legislation we advocate for, I feel seen in the stories we uplift, and I feel seen in the way SEARAC prioritizes health and wellness for staff.
