When Michelle Chang‘s aunt needed a life-saving mastectomy after being diagnosed with late-stage breast cancer, it still was unclear to her during her pre-op appointment on which breast her doctor would soon be operating. And when Mailee Yang needed a therapist during a stressful period in her life, she first needed to spend much time explaining her Hmong culture to her practitioner before receiving the treatment she needed to heal. Through SEARAC’s LAT program, Michelle and Mailee shared their personal stories with their members of Congress and, in the process, gave visibility to health challenges that Southeast Asian Americans face across the country.
By donating today, you will join the fight for quality health and mental health treatment that can be accessed by diverse communities. Your gift will also be used toward SEARAC’s effort to support culturally and linguistically appropriate mental services legislation in California, where we hope to hold an informational hearing to educate legislators and the public on the struggles of Southeast Asian Americans in receiving proper health and mental health care.
Thank you for supporting the health and well-being of refugee and immigrant communities. And thank you to our 50 donors who have already supported our fundraiser. Side by side, we can fight for an America where our resilient families are not just surviving, but thriving.
With thanks,
