Washington, DC – Today, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson became the first Black woman to be confirmed to the US Supreme Court, with a 53-47 Senate vote. When she is sworn in this summer, Judge Jackson will be the second woman of color and third Black Justice to serve on the Court.

SEARAC Executive Director Quyên Đinh issued the following statement:

“SEARAC celebrates Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson and her confirmation to the US Supreme Court, a well-earned achievement that was both historic and long overdue. Judge Jackson’s wide breadth of experience and knowledge arrives at a critical time, when the basic rights of communities of color, including Southeast Asian American communities, are being decided. May this bright moment be but one stepping stone on the path to a more inclusive and equitable justice system that reflects the diversity of the communities it serves.
