Earlier last week, SEARAC hosted a webinar about the importance of data equity for Southeast Asian American (SEAA) communities, the impact of the new federal race and ethnicity data standards, and why our communities should be engaged in implementing the new policy. Recently, SEARAC supported the launch of a new report from AAPI Data, NCAPA, and EPIC proposing three key recommendations to the Administration to ensure that SEAA and other Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) experiences are reflected in federal data collection and reporting:
- The Chief Statistician of the United States must publish an inventory of all current federal agency data collection, including if and how they disaggregate their data;
- The Chief Statistician must designate a body within the Office of Statistical Programs & Standards that will monitor, evaluate, and provide technical assistance across all federal agencies; and
- The Interagency Committee on Race and Ethnicity Standards must meet by June 2024 and begin receiving input from experts from community organizations by September 2024.
Take Action: Join the letter urging the Biden administration to take immediate action on data equity for our communities.
Help us push for sufficient resources to ensure the collection of Asian and NHPI ethnicity data across ALL federal agencies and ALL federal data forms and surveys.
