Week of Giving: Build an education system that respects SEAA students

Dear SEARAC Supporter,

As an educator, I joined the SEARAC board four years ago to support SEARAC’s groundbreaking work to give Southeast Asian American (SEAA) students equal opportunities to access high-quality education.

SEARAC has developed a series of community-led, comprehensive ethnic studies curriculum modules uplifting the Cambodian, Hmong, and Vietnamese experiences. This is a groundbreaking opportunity to deepen knowledge for all students and to bolster SEAA students’ pride in who they are and where they come from.

Furthermore, SEARAC’s advocacy to make SEAA students more visible in education data and to ensure that SEAAs are accurately represented in the US Census has expanded what is possible for SEAA students across the country.

But all of this is at risk with the dismantling of the Department of Education, the cancellation of funds for colleges that serve Asian American students (including AANAPISIs), and dangerous proposed changes to the 2030 Census. As a college professor, advocate, and member of the community, I refuse to let us go backwards. I’m proud to work with SEARAC to make the future that our students deserve.

Your support is needed this Week of Giving to ensure that SEAA students still have the tools they need to succeed. Join us in building an education system that allows all students to be seen and that gives SEAA students the opportunity to thrive.

Warmest Regards,
