There are still four more days to help us reach our goal of $22,000 during our annual Week of Giving. With your generosity, SEARAC can continue our fight for Southeast Asian American visibility.
I joined SEARAC at the end of last year as our Field Manager, a little more than three years after I participated in SEARAC’s Leadership and Advocacy Training program, which has been a core program for emerging advocates since 1999. Your support makes it possible for Southeast Asian Americans like me to unite, to organize, and to address the pressing issues in the lives of our loved ones and our communities.
Thanks to the financial support of our donors, I traveled to DC for the first time and, in the bustling, chaotic halls of Congress, I discovered that there are many special interest groups trying to influence our society. I learned how to overcome my nerves and share with my legislators my experience of working with people impacted by incarceration and deportation. I developed skills and relationships that I will carry with me forever.
Most of all, your support of programs like LAT allows Southeast Asian Americans like myself to feel seen. To feel a sense of belonging and connection. To understand that we’re not alone. To know that we’re in this fight together.
That experience is what I’m bringing to my new role at SEARAC, where I now oversee the LAT program that had such an impact on my own life. In partnership with you, I dream of LAT one day expanding to multiple states, multiple times of the year. I’m looking forward to this year’s program, hopefully in-person, where we can show our community power in demanding deportation relief, data disaggregation, universal health care access, and more.
There is so much at stake this year. Together, we can make a difference.
Thank you for your support,
Danny Doan
